When I was in high school, I had the privilege to go to El Cajon Broadway Youth Venture. My life was tremendously impacted and changed through the mentoring and small groups I attended through Youth Venture and with Rheanna Chan.
Now, after many years of being a part of the Youth Venture family, I have been blessed with the opportunity to strategize and form ideas of my own. I want to continue to pay forward what the program has done for me. As of January of this year, I’ve taken on a new role as the Girls Event Coordinator and Intern.  As a part of this role, I was asked to help lead a Youth Venture Junior High small group. At first it was tough, but getting to know the girls through the stories they share has changed my heart, and I’ve grown to love them. The ministry has shown me how great God’s love really is.  The girls now, in their own way, are letting me in and allowing me to come alongside them in more of a mentoring relationship.  It’s extremely inspiring, and I hope to be as impactful as Rheanna was to me.
Youth Venture is designed to reach the lost youth in our neighborhoods. However, so often it seems we reach many boys, but we are not as good at reaching the girls that are hurting.  My vision for the girls ministry at Youth Venture is to develop techniques and create events that will help reach more girls in our community.
I believe that if we held both individual and combined center events we’d be able to reach these girls and effectively communicate our message, which is the saving grace of Jesus Christ, to them. We have four different centers which bring four different cultures of youth with different backgrounds and interests.  I want to be able to promote an environment that enables the women leaders in each center to better reach girls that they, specifically, see each week.
We have three big events planned for the girls from all centers. They will have the opportunity to connect to the church and to each other. Mentoring is and will continue to be, in my opinion, the most important and effective way of reaching out to all youth. I am excited and confident that we will see more girls getting involved. The girls will be encouraged to be baptized through our church as we implement these visions, which I, as well as other women leaders, have through Youth Venture.
Thank you for your support and prayers.
